Offered is a fine antique Chinese Foo (Fu) guardian temple dog/lion from the early 1900s, in beautiful all hand carved high relief with magnificent gilt on his body and vivid red color in his open mouth and on the stand. This wonderful early piece was perhaps part of a bigger piece kept in a Chinese temple.
Chinese guardian lions or imperial guardian lions, often called "Foo Dogs" in the West, are a common representation of the lion in imperial China.
This magnificent Chinese Foo (Fu) temple dog/lion who represents energy and value, is in excellent shape and condition with the exception of a minor crack on the back and part of the right corner in addition to five small holes on front and back.
